Thermopolis, Wyoming
Thermopolis, Wyoming is one of those small picturesque Western towns where the altitude is higher than the population: altitude 4,500 feet above sea level and population of 3,200 people.
Thermopolis is renowned for its World's Largest Mineral Hot Spring and beautiful surroundings.
I always stay at the Holiday Inn because it has a nice hunter’s trophy room. Actually this is one of the areas where the locals make hunting a real reason to supplement the budgets during winter. Of course Alaska would be number 1 and Montana a close second. If you want to visit rural America before all the Hollywood and Callused free hands of southern Ca, urbanite wimps move in then you must see this area. If your family moved from the east coast to the west coast in the 1900’s they passed through here if they didn’t ship around Cape Horn of South America.
Special treats of course is the Smithsonian of the West Buffalo Bill Cody Museum in Cody Wy. Jackson Hole, Yellowstone Park, and The Ten Sleep Trail which all are worth visiting.
Just try to avoid the wealthy Hollywood type.
