Imus is not the problem! He
is the barometer of societies
mal-entretenu state of
civility particular in the area of the tongue,
like the rudder of a ship.
It
seems that even in the Modern day of advanced
technology and instant replay, the collective
society of multicultural integrity and diversity
can not even come together on rules of the road
or set the course of the tongue.
“Not many of you should presume to be teachers,
my brothers, because you know that we who teach
will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in
many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what
he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his
whole body in check”… (James).
(More excitement
below)
Stumbling is not new
to man kind, yet! The truth lies in how we deal
with it. Here is some ancient wisdom and not
from the mouth of foxes or wolves, but from
divine teaching. Sorry, I repent for having to
discuss this, but as one who knows that words
have more meaning then trying to determine the
understanding of what is, IS!!! Whole columns of
men can be turned or stopped with one or two
words.
James 3
Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that
they may obey us; and we turn about their whole
body.
Behold also the ships, which though they be so
great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are
they turned about with a very small helm,
whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the
tongue is a little member, and boasteth great
things.
Behold, how great a matter a little fire
kindleth!
We know that the tongue is like a rudder of a
great ship, one in which a large vessel can be
turned by a small instrument.
It is of note how hundreds of Talk Radio, Talk
TV, politicians, and scores of others have all
said the same words, verbatim that Don Imus
said. Strange that unlike someone saying the
seven deadly words (not by referring to them
just by a singular letter) can be fired or
fined, even when they are not directed at any
one person or group.
However the very same thing the exact words that
Mr. Imus used has been repeated 1,000’s of times
on most of the mass media circuit. Strange, how
that those same words repeated by anyone else is
not consider as offense. Two wrongs are only
right when it is spoken by the left. I choose
not to use or refer to any words that were used
in his comments. Avoid the appearance of evil.
It would be better not to cross the line, that's
kind of like having a red stop light in your
head, warning you of impending danger.
Repentance might be more acceptable, if one who
said in haste that he had gone too far and
apologized at the very moment, not later.
Often we could avoid irreparable damage with
repentance and forgiveness. Some horses need
some strong bits in the mouth. I certainly need
correction, and appreciate the training my
parents gave me at an early age.
But now – thank God – there
has been some serious changes available.
